Fashion week is that friend that visits once a year. She’s got the best of everything: hot, quiet and reserved in moments, out all night in neon and always full of energy. You can only survive a week with her but you’re left with a year full of outrageous stories and inspiration. How Romy survives Fashion Week:
Vitalgreens + Redken wool shake (for “zhushing”) + ELLERY et Graz sunnies + iPhone + surfboard + Chloe dress + water + SMR newsletter + Tiffany’s cuff (If I’m going to be handcuffed to my phone, I may as well do it in style).
SS12/13 Inspiration: It’s an homage to something from my past that I am now feeling guilty about, it’s somewhat nostalgic, Architecture and Shape, Uniforms, The Land of the Rising Sun: Nihon | Nippon.
What’s your favourite piece? A red skirt that floats like glitter.
Best compliment you’ve ever received? That I’m really good at making pancakes.
What gets you through fashion week? My make-up bag!
What are you wearing today? My white Egalite tee, black triple organza box pleat knee length skirt, Balenciaga black awkward sandals and my red ‘Merci’ string bracelet.
Tech addiction: INSTAGRAM! What an App : )
Where would you like to be after fashion week? On a tropical escape with close friends, a Belvedere dirty martini and a rainbow hammock!
Excitement building, leaving HQ at the Four Seasons and on my way to ELLERY show appropriately dressed in ELLERY jacket, Miu Miu skirt and top, Hermes Bag and Celine Shoes. Sending lots of luck your way for the show Miss Kym!!!
A theatrical production with as much time and effort put into the clothing as into the entire atmosphere of the show. 1920s backstage, girls with dark smoky brown eyes and greased up bodies lazing over cellos & art deco chairs. The pieces were of soft pinks, lace in browns & black, sequins & cheetah print. The props were lamps, open encyclopedias, vases, stacks of books and fake palm fronds and roses spray painted in red, white and black. Another step in the interactivity of fashion week being streamed live through every social media platform you could imagine, here the bloggers could talk to the models, grab quotes to go with their instagrams and creative direct them for their perfect shot.
What’s your favorite piece? I love the Animalia stripe print long gown. It’s simple yet instantly makes a statement. I think it shows off the power of an amazing print.
What’s the hair inspiration for the collection? The hair is a modern reinterpretation of a nostalgic hairstyle, reminiscent of a decade past.
Where’s your head at right now? All over the place. In my prints, in my show – I think I may need some sleep.
What an incredible presentation. Song for the Mute have moved out of their comfort zone of signature drapery and into unknown territory: all layers, structured tailoring with a sport edge in monotone greys and blacks. The installation was a real tribute to their philosophy on fashion which is based on an artistic attitude, designing around emotion rather than trend.
In the very intimate surroundings of the Apollo restaurant (the place to be right now), Michael Lo Sordo unveiled his collection inspired by: insects, the 60s, metallic, new printing techniques and strength. Such a pretty collection, beautifully wearable and full of colour from the printed dresses to the crisp tailored shirts. Don’t forget to watch the video where I talk to Michael about something very personal that his collection and I share.
All Photos: Soraya Zaman (on her birthday) for StyleMeRomy.com Richard Kavanagh of Redken was amazing as usual.
What’s your favourite piece? This is a tough one. But I must go with either The Paper Cocoon Vest…or The Yeti.
What’s the hair inspiration for the collection? We’ve always seen our ‘boy’ with their hair slicked back but this season we have street influence in our design and have gone with a more natural, boy-ish look, with the help of our Redken hair director Jon Pulitano.
What gets you through fashion week? Fashion Week has always been fun for us because we’ve never actually participated in it. This year marks our debut and oh my god the workload is unbelievable.
What are you wearing today? I’ve been sitting at home working all day today so I’ve been in my pyjamas 90% of the time.
Tech addiction: We’re completely useless when it comes to social media but we are trying. This is especially embarrassing for me as I used to be a dedicated gamer!
Anything different this season? Lots of textural elements: lame encrusted floral jacquards, tight encrusted monochrome beading, soft hues contrasted with dark textures.
What’s your favourite piece? I love the Saturn evening dress, completely covered in lame flowers.
Where’s your head at right now? Meetings, Grace Kelly, vanilla ice cream with strawberries.
What gets you through fashion week? Chocolate and a really good hotel room.
