What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
We have been influenced by the environment in Palm Beach, for our colour and texture in our fabrics & prints. This collection incorporates stretch suede, digital prints used on our organic cotton jersey, textured hand knits & stripes, mixed back with sophisticated shirting.
Do you have a favourite piece in the collection?
Our favourite piece is the crisp white elongated shirt.
SMR Coverage: Runway images and fashion experts critique.
TUESDAY, MAY 04
Designer: Camilla and Marc
Time: 9am Location: Off site
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
Global Fusion, our colour palette and fabrications are more experimental this season. We normally work with quite a neutral palette but for this summer we have used a mix of colour, print and texture.
What do you think of blogs/bloggers?
We like them! Marc and I both have a couple of favourite blogs that we check regularly and we love the ‘new news’ nature of blogs and online media.
SMR Coverage: Watch an exclusive video of Camilla and Marc interviewing each other.
Designer: Zimmermann
Time: 10.00am Location: The OPT
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
The initial idea for the collection started with a succession of tonal colours, starting at black & white and building with nude, lilac, aqua and persimmon. Column shapes have been used to create elongated, less fitted silhouettes. The resulting look is clean, beautiful and fresh.
How do you survive fashion week?
Drinking wine with Romy!
How do you decide what to wear on the day of the show?
Normally black so I don’t need to think about anything other than what is in the show.
SMR Coverage: Watch an exclusive interview with Nicky Zimmermann and take a tour of her design room.
Designer: Little Joe Woman
Time: 12pm Location: The OPT
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
My inspiration for the our Little Joe Woman Spring / Summer 2010 RAFW ‘Hot in the City’ show captures the essence of city streets and life in the big metropolis incorporating a mix of elements from around the globe. It infuses a blend of evocative
prints, delicate lace, crochet, silks and layering pieces.
How do you survive fashion week?
It’s Little Joe Woman’s first fashion week, I’ll let you know how we survived when it’s over!
Who’s coming to the show?
Who’s coming to our show… everyone!
SMR Coverage: Exclusive behind the scenes pre-show hair trial and interview with designer Gail Elliott.
Designer: Friedrich Gray
Time: 7.30pm Location: The Cargo Theatre
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
The minimalist design aesthetic of sculpture and installation artist Richard Serra and contemporary artist Banks Violette through garments that reflect an aggressive and compelling energy. During the design phase the studio was immersed in a monolithic wall of sound, generated by experimental black metal band sunn O))) and the minimal techno sounds from German club scene.
Who’s coming to the show?
We have invited the guys from Bodega Restaurant and a few bloggers, I like the idea of mixing it all up.
SMR Coverage: Runway report and interview with Friedrich Gray designer Ben Pollitt
Designer: Ellery
Time: 9.30pm Location: Off Site
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
The mystery of le zodiac and the 2 sides it possesses, quel horreur! [I’ve incorporated] new silvers and pale grey leathers as well as some shimmer amongst the matte organic fibres I adore.
Anyone you sit in the front row that’s not fashion press?
My Mum and Dad, Aunts and Uncle, I’m very excited but they’re not a tough crowd to please.
What do you think of blogs/ bloggers?
J’adore
SMR Coverage: Exclusive behind the scenes access with Kym Ellery.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 04
Designer: Therese Rawsthorne
Time: 9.00am Location: Off Site
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
I was inspired by driving through the desert in Arizona and out to the Grand Canyon last year. Incredible beauty blooms in such harsh environments. [This season] the new fabric is leather, we have done a leather capsule within the collection which is sleek and modern and has a really strong dramatic edge.
What do you think of blogs/ bloggers?
I think bloggers can be really amazing, they give a different perspective and it doesn’t have to go through the same editing process as mainstream publications. I like bloggers who have a strong personal point of view, not just rehashing the same stuff as everyone else.
SMR Coverage: Special guest celebrity show review.
Designer: Anna & Boy
Time: 6.30pm Location: The OPT
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
When designing the collection we started out with the title “A Coney Island Summer” and it was based on a carnival of colour and slightly kitsch prints and details. The show styling has taken a slightly different turn and is based on the look of some of our favourite film stars like Ann Margaret, Charlotte Rampling, Catherine Denueve and is heading in a slightly kooky sixties direction. Like the super coiffed and hair sprayed ladies you see poolside in Slim Aarons photographs, all extreme resort outfits with matching everything. A bit nutty.
How do you decide what to wear the day of the show?
Unfortunately Lill and I never have time to really think about it and regret it always when we see the photo from the catwalk! What we are wearing needs to be easy to move in and practical (hmmmm, that word) for dealing with the backstage mayhem.
Have you thought about wearing a bikini?
(Laughs all around)
SMR Coverage: Exclusive behind the scenes video of a pre-show fitting with Anna Hewett and Lill Boyd.
Designer: Karla Spetic
Time: 7.30pm Location: The Cargo Theatre
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
The concept for the current collection came from a documentary called dark science. It’s about a Swedish scientist/explorer who came to Kimberleys in the early 1900’s to study archaeology, the life and history of the aboriginal people. He became obsessed with the Aborigines and to further his studies and satisfy his personal greed he stole their ancestor remains, smuggling human remains back to Sweden. The collection is an exploration of two complete opposites and the way the two cultures merged and had to learn to adapt to one another. There is a dark side to it but there is also light.

What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
“Reflection, refractions, inflections and colours of LIGHT” this phrase was taken from Isaac Newton’s book ‘Opticks’ and sums up the inspiration perfectly. Using the three dimensional lines of light passing through crystal, my focus has been on creating different dimensions within the garments through both the construction and the use of difference compositions and weights of fabrics such as silk, neoprene and cotton canvas.
Who’s coming to the show?
Garance Doré, local and international fashion press and buyers and friends
Anyone you sit in the front row that’s not fashion press?
My handsome fiancé
SMR Coverage: Show Review
Designer: Ksubi
Time: 8.00pm Location: Off Site
What was the inspiration for your RAFW show?
Gangs, sacrificial ceremonies, late 80’s Aussie punk, positive versus negative space, exploration in texture – old soft and new stiff AND The symbolism of zero:
Mystery
Nothingness
Infinity
Potential
Possibility
Eternity
Reflection
Void
Totality
Rebirth
Do you have a favourite piece in the collection?
Yeah but I don’t think we’ve made it yet.
How do you survive fashion Week?
If you are doing a show you generally have your head so far up your own ass, and if you’re like us you are probably running right up until the end, so you don’t really get out to see any shows, fashion week kind of begins and ends at your own show and it feels like it’s over in a second. We have often thought about doing a show early in the week that way we could enjoy hanging out, alas.
How do you decide what to wear the day of the show?
Something old, something new, something blue.
SMR Coverage: Behind the scenes and show review.
