Casual Fridays

I’m trying to take my mind off the fact that winter is heavily upon us here Down Under. So if I’m staying in this weekend I’m at least going look good because sometimes casual is so much harder for me than dressy. Here’s some OTT solutions… Vuitton throw anyone?

Cabin Fever

It’s with designer, Claire Dickson-Smith that I share my love of books. Over the years we have introduced each other to great authors, swapping and sharing our favourites in our once monthly book club. Claire’s cabin, come studio evokes an ultimate escape, styled with treasures and trinkets from travels and time. Think creature comforts this long weekend…

“I love these grasses which look like wheat they add a real American prairie house quality to the room, I actually picked them from side of the road in Tamarama, the huge green bottle is from A Country Trader and I usually half fill it with sand and put candles in…the rug is from Koskela I love the colour combination it fits so perfectly into the design and colours of the cabin. Right now I’m reading Skagboys by Irvine Welsh & I Dreamed I was A Very Clean Tramp by Richard Hell usually have 2 or 3 on the go at one time!” CDS

“My personal style is pretty much what you see reflected in my home, I like things to be natural and a little imperfect, I love the idea of looking back for inspiration and good design and also the way things were crafted so beautifully in the past compared to the way things are banged out now”
“My cabin was inspired by Peter Pan’s Wendy house -( the little house he builds her to recuperate in after she is nearly killed by one of the lost boys) and also largely by a website called Cabin Porn it is a place to retreat and relax and being up high amongst the trees and the birds it makes you feel away from it all despite being only a few metres from our house” CDS

Femme Fatale

Gucci’s pre-fall femininity materializes a modern femme fatal. The collection is a lady like take on some of my winter favourites like lace, leather and leopard and contrasts the many faces of femininity with the soft and fluid fabrics Frida Giannini is known for. Here my guide for all things “femme fatale” & those out on the town essentials.

Gatsby Girl

Inspired by a week of events that saw friend Elizabeth Debicki on the big screen at the Tiffany & Co. premiere of The Great Gatsby and department store, David Jones celebrating its landmark 175th birthday. I’ve decided to dedicate the week to evening wear and who best to kick us off than behind the scenes with the great Elizabeth Debicki. The striking and talented 22 year old Australian actress was a knockout in her break out role, as pro-golfer Jordan Baker. Always a pleasure to style Miss Elizabeth, here a peak at our Who magazine shoot capturing Elizabeth in this season’s best.

Singapore Fling

Back from the bustling city lights of Singapore, after a weekend of styling the Collette Dinnigan show, as part of the city’s own Fashion Week. Collette’s latest collection was true to her signature style of hand beaded silks, sequins and lace but with a surprise of embellished leather. The grandeur of Raffles Hotel was the perfect spot for a Singapore sling (the 100 yr old cocktail), while the rooftop bar and pool of The Marina Bay Sands set the backdrop to close out the weekend on a Singapore high. Here a peak at the highlights…
